Local 39 Bargaining Update, Nov. 9, 2023

To our engineers,

Yesterday, Kaiser Permanente’s bargaining team and IUOE Local 39 representatives met again to continue negotiating toward a mutually beneficial agreement.

We continued to discuss Kaiser Permanente’s new wage proposal that was presented Nov. 1. To clarify our proposal: We are offering engineers a compounded 12% wage increase upon ratification of the agreement, representing a 4% increase for each year, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In addition, in yesterday’s session, we also doubled our proposed extra lump sum payment to $5,000 for Local 39 represented employees hired before Jan. 1, 2022, and increased the lump sum to $3,000 for those hired Jan. 1 – Sept. 24, 2022. Those hired on or after Sept. 25, 2022, and before Sept. 24, 2023, would receive $2,750. Those hired on or after Sept. 24, 2023, would receive $2,500.

We are still waiting for a response from the union to our wage and pension proposals. The union has shown almost no movement in its proposals despite the improvements we have made in our offer.

Despite this, we are committed to continue to bargain in good faith. Our next sessions are scheduled for Dec. 7 and Jan. 4, 2024, and we will provide updates after those sessions as always.

Thank you for following these latest developments and for everything that you do for our organization. We want to continue to emphasize that Kaiser Permanente leaders understand and appreciate your expertise and hard work, which enables all of us to continue to provide high-quality, safe care to our members and patients every day.
