KP-CNA Bargaining Update #12

Today, Kaiser Permanente and the California Nurses Association (CNA) met for the twelfth day of contract negotiations.

What happened

Kaiser Permanente shared that further implementation of the Clinical Alert Notification System (CANS) in hospitals and emergency departments in the region will be paused for one month, to respond to concerns nurses and managers have expressed about the rollout.

The union presented the following proposals: to increase the number of regional Home Health and Hospice Professional Performance Committee meetings from every other month to monthly; to establish a regional Appointment and Advice Call Center (AACC) Professional Performance Committee that would meet quarterly; and to expand and restructure the process for AACC RNs to review call center scripts.

The proposals generated respectful, engaging dialogue between the parties.

 For the record

Over the next month, we will work with medical center leaders and managers, the union, and RNs to assess what we’ve learned about CANS implementation, and how to use this knowledge as we move forward.

What comes next

Bargaining is scheduled to continue Tuesday, Aug. 29. We will continue to keep you informed.
